"Spiff"

This is "Spiff" ~ Wild Stallion of the Salt River.

This stallion stood out to me as I watched the entire band for about an hour and a half. His energy was subdued, but when he moved the other horses responded.  If he lowered his head and pinned his ears back and walked toward them, they would move in the direction he asked.  No fuss.  No objection.  Just "ok.  I'll go that way."

What I like about this image is that it clearly shows the season and also the late day warm sun lighting.

I envy all the locals there who go out regularly to observe and photograph the herd and know almost all of them by name.  I was accompanied on this day by my husband Thomas and son Daniel, who lives in Gilbert.  I trip to visit Daniel now almost always includes a trip to the river.
