How I was affected: I was in the middle of the craziest time. I’m in advanced dance, I was in the Spring Musical and I played volleyball. On March 13th I had a dance show that night and that got cancelled, then they cancelled the Spring Musical and then the volleyball season, so I went from crazy busy to calm.
What was it like staying at home: I’m always busy, so I didn’t know what to do with myself. My days consisted of:
Something that stood out during this experience: We had an exchange student living with us who had to go home to Italy. To keep myself busy at first before he went back to Italy the two of us made videos together. In addition to my brother having to go back to Italy, I’m dating this girl who’s an exchange student from Germany as well and she had to go back as well. That was crazy and hard.
Some of the emotions I experienced when this all started: At first I felt stuck and then I found things to do and things started moving along. When it first happened I was in denial that they would stop school! Then surprise when they cancelled school and all the activities. Then I was not happy, but found the positive side of it. Then I got sad when my brother and my girlfriend left. Now I’m at acceptance.
One positive thing was: The side jobs I got from NextDoor and word of mouth enabled me to earn enough money to buy a car and a phone!
Did you miss not having Senior activities and Graduation: At Paso, the seniors get to end school a week early and we go to Universal Studios, practice graduation, and spend time with our classmates, but missing out on that didn’t affect me too much. Yes I missed out on that, but I’m ok with it. I will hopefully get to have graduation at the end of college.
Are you starting to feel things open back up: The neighbor across the street had a birthday the other day and we played fugitive - we hop in cars and drop people off and give them a head start back home and then we drive and if we see them they’re out and they have to get back in the car. That was our first social thing with a group of us. Then we just went surfing, a few of us, the other day. Friends are starting to come over… it feels like things are slowly coming back.
Lori’s Summary: Zane is very pragmatic and practical. Once he figures out what’s happening he finds a way to adjust to it. Being a dancer, he doesn’t like to sit still (or because he loves to be on the move it’s fitting that he’s a dancer)! He comes across as very positive.
